Just putting a message on here to say how very proud we are of our Year 6 children. The amount of effort and quality work the children put into their writing today (and other learning) was exceptional. You should be very proud of them, I know we are!
I had a fantastic conversation with Hayden Foster about a book in read last night (It took him little more than an hour. I asked (and he agreed to write a book review on here. Hopefully lots of you could do the same. I will attach a template (later tonight) to help if you are not sure what to include.
Any questions or help that is needed can be placed here.
We are happy to show maths methods and new strategies.
The Y6 team.
In maths we have been using Learn Its.
What are they you may ask! They are building blocks for all number in maths. For example, if one of the Learn Its is 3 + 8 = 11. Using this and learning this alone allows us to know more. If I know 3 + 8 = 11, I should know that 8 + 3 = 11, 11 – 3 = 8 and 11 – 8 = 3. Using these as building blocks allows us to know so much more. 30 + 80 = 110. We use place value to help with these. On a regular basis children will get new ones. It is really important that they practise them. It may seem simple however it WILL help in so many areas.
We have had a very active start to the year.
In Theme we are looking at WW2. We have looked at the UK and the blitz. We have plotted on a map which major cities were bombed and when. This was a little tricky but the children showed excellent perseverance. We have started reading (and we will soon be watching) Carrie’s War. We will be using this to write a letter ‘home’. The children will ‘become’ a character and write to their mum as this character. You could ask them what they know about the character and what they may include!
What an amazing response! We had over 90% of our Year 6 children return Story Sacks. Thank you. They have shared them with others and looked at the contents and the verdict from the children was very positive. We, the staff, walked around the classrooms and saw some amazing games and activities. Over the coming weeks we will be using them further.
Once again, thank you to all of you who worked so hard on them.
